Switzerland announced the date and location of the first Peace Summit

The Swiss government will host a two-day high-level conference in June aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine. In particular, the first Peace Summit will be held on June 15-16.

Reuters reports this. In January, Switzerland said it would hold a peace summit at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and has since held talks with the EU, G7 members and countries such as China and India to secure their support.

“There is now sufficient international support for a high-level conference to launch the peace process,” the Federal Council said in a statement.

The summit will take place on June 15-16 at the Bürgenstock resort in the canton of Nidwalden near the city of Lucerne. Its goal is to create a basis, a favorable environment for a comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine, as well as to approve “a concrete road map for Russia’s participation in the peace process.”

However, the Swiss authorities have not yet disclosed the full list of participants.

Although Moscow has said it is not opposed to negotiations to end the war, Russian officials have said they will not participate in the talks in Switzerland, a country they believe has abandoned its neutrality over the war.

Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has said the Swiss initiative is meaningless without Moscow’s participation.
