The US expects Ukrainian counter-offensive in 2025

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is convinced that the assistance allocated by the United States will contribute to Ukraine’s transition to a counteroffensive, which is possible in 2025.

As European Pravda reports, citing the words of Jake Sullivan, quoted by the Financial Times . During a speech in Washington, Sullivan said he still expects "Russian gains in the near term" on the battlefield, despite the new US funding package, because "you can’t flip a switch overnight."

At the same time, he said, with new help from the United States, Ukraine will have the opportunity to “hold the line” and ensure resistance against Russian attacks throughout 2024.

Speaking about a possible war scenario next year, Sullivan said Ukraine intends to "move forward to retake the territory that the Russians took from it."

As the publication notes, Sullivan’s statements are the clearest formulation of White House representatives regarding how the US administration sees the development of the Russian war against Ukraine if President Joe Biden wins the election in November.

At the same time, the publication points out that any new Ukrainian offensive in 2025 will depend on increased funding from Congress and approval from the White House.

The United States has previously expressed hope that new American military aid, released after the Congressional decision, will help the Ukrainian Armed Forces eventually regain the initiative on the battlefield, but a large-scale Ukrainian offensive is unlikely in the near future.
