Hamburg’s Senator for the Interior, Andy Grote, handed over the first of four demining vehicles to Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany, Oleksiy Makeyev.
This was reported by the n-tv channel.
The vehicle will be used to neutralize explosive ordnance from June. Three more vehicles are expected to arrive by August.
“The mining of a large part of the territory of Ukraine is one of the greatest dangers that the war creates for the population,” Grote said.
"We are therefore very pleased that we can use Hamburg’s experience in explosive ordnance disposal to help reduce the number of mine deaths in Ukraine," he added.
As a result of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, more and more mines are being found on Ukrainian territory. According to information from the Ukrainian authorities cited by the channel, an area of about 174,000 square kilometers is mined.
