More than 600 prisoners have already joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, - Malyuska

As of the morning of May 28, 613 prisoners had already left prison and joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For now, they are undergoing appropriate training, and in the future they will serve in assault units.

This was announced by Minister of Justice Denys Malyuska on the air of the United News marathon .

According to Malyuska, “several months of training” are provided for these people, after which they will serve in assault units.

“As of now, these will be assault units, these will be units that for now consist exclusively of people who have served their sentences. That is, these are monolithic units - without mixing with other military personnel.”

He added that he is not sure that this is the best option, but in this matter it is left to the military because they “know better.”

“We have not yet reached the stage of direct combat operations by these units, preparations are underway. Perhaps the situation will change later. And the choice to mix or not mix will be made in a different favor. But for now these are separate units. For now these are assault units,” the minister said .

He also advocates allowing those convicted of one murder to mobilize - no matter whether it is premeditated murder or manslaughter.

"With one murder (so that they can mobilize - ed.) that’s all. Our prisoners do not go to fight to catch butterflies... they go to kill. And the experience of killing in the past does not always prevent one from fighting well... If we are talking about murders that were not committed with particular cruelty, or these are not murders of 2 or more persons, then very often these are crimes committed by a person who is less socially dangerous than a person who has committed 3-4 robberies using, for example, knives.

Purely for classical reasons. Because sometimes a person loses control over his actions and, on a certain emotional wave, does something that he should not do. But after he receives a sentence and begins to serve his sentence, his psychological state and control over himself changes significantly - and his social danger is significantly reduced compared to repeat offenders who have made it a profession to take money using weapons - robberies, attacks on people,” explained Malyuska.
