On 6 June, a major was detained in Lviv for repeatedly beating soldiers under his command on the territory of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy. The detainee has already been imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of release from jail on UAH 908,000 bail.
As stated in the case, a native of the Lviv region, deputy commander of a mechanized company of one of the military units, is accused of abuse of power or official authority. The major repeatedly beat his subordinates on the territory of the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi.
During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers established that the major, in particular, hit one soldier in the chest with an AK-74 assault rifle. The military man did not like that the soldier asked his comrade to look after the weapon while he went away. The major also beat at least several other soldiers. He kicked one of them in the chest, beat another on the buttocks with a belt, and ordered another subordinate to chew cigarettes. These incidents of violence occurred during a full-scale invasion.
On June 6, 2024, the major was detained by the State Bureau of Investigation; he was informed of suspicion of committing an offense under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code (exceeding power or official authority by a military official). The court has already chosen a preventive measure for the military serviceman - detention with the opportunity to leave the pre-trial detention center for 908 thousand UAH of bail.
Previously, cadets of the military academy complained of bullying, poor allowance and nutrition.
