Syrskyi: The enemy is concentrating its main efforts on the Pokrovsk direction, tough fighting continues

At this stage of the war against Ukraine, the army of the Russian Federation focused its main efforts on the Pokrovsk direction. The overwhelming number of enemy strike brigades and regiments are concentrated there.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi spoke about this on Monday, June 17, on Telegram . He has been working for almost a week at various points on the eastern front, including critical ones.

“The nature of the enemy’s actions has not changed significantly. In the Kupyansk, Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, Vremivsk operational directions, active offensive actions of varying intensity are being carried out, trying to break through the defenses of our troops and capture important areas of the terrain or settlements that affect the stability of our defense,” the general-colonel stated.

In terms of specific localities, fierce fighting continues in the areas of Hlyboke, Chasiv Yar, Staromayorsk, Robotyne, Krynky, as well as the islands in the coastal area of the left bank of the Dnipro River.

Syrsky explained that the purpose of his work is to study the situation, assist brigade commanders in organising actions, resolve problematic issues, provide additional weapons and ammunition, strengthen reserves, etc.

"The enemy is well aware that as a result of the gradual receipt of a significant amount of weapons and military equipment from our partners, the arrival of the first F-16s, which will strengthen our air defence, time will play in our favour and his chances of success will decrease," the chief said.

That is why Russian commanders are making every effort to ensure that their troops advance with greater intensity and expand the geography of combat operations.

“Along the entire front from Kharkiv to Krynky, our military personnel demonstrate steadfastness, courage and patriotism, and most importantly, faith in our victory,” Syrskyi noted.

In particular, recently in the Donetsk region, a Ukrainian soldier from one of the combat brigades of the Armed Forces independently captured four Russian occupiers. This act is a shining example of courage and fighting spirit. This man certainly deserves an award, the commander-in-chief noted.

He thanked all our defenders and defenders who are responsible in fulfilling their duties.

“More than ever, the army needs maximum public support in every sense,” concluded the Colonel General.
