CEC explained why the partial restoration of the State Voter Register was implemented

The Central Election Commission clarified that the restoration of the State Voter Register in terms of accounting for permanent polling stations is an integral part of the annual planned technical works.

This was reported by the Communications and Information Policy Department of the CEC Secretariat in a comment for UP, and from the resolution of the CEC.

The Central Election Commission published the decision No. 54 dated September 20, 2024, on the restoration of the automated information and communication system "State Voter Register" in terms of accounting for polling stations that operate on a permanent basis.

As stated in the document, the CEC is the administrator of the State Voter Register and is responsible for maintaining it in accordance with the law. One of the main tasks of the register is to account for polling stations that operate on a permanent basis.

The media asked the Communications and Information Policy Department of the CEC Secretariat about the reasons for this decision. They explained that the update of the register is planned work that is carried out annually.

"This is regular planned activity that is constantly carried out. We have a significant number of internally displaced persons and destroyed premises. We have previously carried out certain activities, and now it is time to update the information on polling stations. This does not mean that elections will be held in the near future — it is solely about planned technical work. Similar activities are carried out annually in accordance with resolutions. The main goal is to prepare the database for possible elections after the end of the war. At the moment, it is just technical work, and there is no talk of holding elections," commented the commission.

CEC also emphasized that the register is not yet open for public use, and internal technical work is currently underway.

"At the moment, only the part of the register related to polling stations is restored. Other areas are not yet active. Our task at the moment is to update the data on polling stations that operate on a permanent basis. In previous years, we also conducted technical work — checking the connection and operability of the register," added the CEC.
