According to military analyst Oleksiy Hetman, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have many tasks that women can perform to enhance the army’s security.
The topic of mobilizing women in Ukraine has resurfaced in discussions amid assumptions that the war could last for several more years.
Given these circumstances, military analyst Oleksiy Hetman commented to TSN on the possibility of mobilizing women.
In a conversation with journalists, military analyst Oleksiy Hetman noted: "Even before the full-scale invasion, several years ago, together with our partners from the USA and Canada, we analyzed the number of women in the armies of NATO countries and Ukraine. In terms of percentages, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have the highest number of women, while the Italian army has the least. Mobilizing women is possible, but it’s an unlikely scenario."
In his opinion, instead of increasing the army’s numbers through women, attention should be paid to those evading mobilization and those who have received various deferrals and exemptions from service.
"It is necessary to deal with these categories. As for women, volunteers are already serving. Mobilized women could be engaged in medical assistance, work with documentation, perform communication functions, as well as handle food and supply provisions," Hetman emphasized.
Furthermore, the expert added that there are many positions in the army that women can fill.
"Women won’t be sent to the ’zero line,’ but there are many tasks that women can perform to strengthen the combat capability of our army," Hetman concluded.
