In Ukraine, the issue of lowering the conscription age continues to be actively discussed.
«If the Constitution establishes that a person can become a member of parliament at the age of 21, then they can definitely become a soldier at the age of 20», said Roman Kostenko, the secretary of the National Security Committee.
According to the member of parliament and military officer, he was prompted to make statements on this topic by conversations with congressmen in private discussions.
Kostenko noted that Americans have doubts regarding the mobilization issues in Ukraine.
«There is a war for independence, you are fighting, we are providing weapons. You claim that you have mobilization problems. Why do all countries conscript from the age of 18, but in your country, it is from 25 years old? This means you do not have mobilization problems. Or you are afraid to take decisive measures», Kostenko recounts his dialogues with American colleagues.
In his opinion, lowering the age for conscription is «not a radical decision», and he supports it.
