The SBU and SBI detained generals over a failed defense in the Kharkiv region in 2024.
According to case materials, the case involves a brigadier general who was the commander of the operational-tactical group (OTG) "Kharkiv," a lieutenant general who held the position of commander of the 125th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a colonel who previously led the 415th battalion of this formation. According to the SSU, these individuals failed to provide adequate protection of the Kharkiv region during the enemy’s offensive in May 2024.
Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being decided. The defendants face up to 10 years in prison.
As reported to the publication by sources in law enforcement agencies, it concerns Brigadier General Yuriy Halushkin, Lieutenant General Artur Horbenko, and Colonel Illya Lapin, whose inaction led to the capture of part of the Kharkiv region in 2024.
Due to their negligent attitude towards military service, they allowed Russian troops to take control of part of the Lypetsk rural territorial community in the Kharkiv district. The commanders’ actions also led to the loss of personnel and weapons, disrupting measures for the defence of the state border in their zone of responsibility.
