What is known about the richest retiree in Ukraine, Nataliya Shaptala


Shaptala began her career in the judiciary back in 1996.

The highest-paid retiree in Ukraine is former judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU), Nataliya Shaptala (considering the judge’s lifelong payment). She receives a pension of 390 thousand hryvnias per month.

"Telegraf" reports on what is known about Nataliya Shaptala, her career, property, and personal life. It should be noted that there are interesting moments in the former judge’s biography.

Currently, the ex-judge is 65 years old. She was born in Donetsk. Shaptala began her career in the judiciary in 1996 at the Lenin District Court of her native city.

From 2002 to 2006, she was a judge of the Donetsk Appellate Court. Then, for the next four years, she worked as the first deputy head of the Donetsk Appellate Administrative Court.

In September 2010, she was appointed as a judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine by the X Congress of Judges of Ukraine.

In May 2019, a meeting of the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine took place, at which Nataliya Shaptala was appointed as the head of the CCU.

On September 17, 2019, Nataliya Shaptala was dismissed from the position of head of the CCU and from the position of judge of the CCU in accordance with paragraph 4 of part two of article 149-1 of the Constitution of Ukraine, based on her submitted resignation.

The last declaration was submitted by Shaptala in 2019. It states that the ex-judge has a shared apartment with her son Vitaliy in Kyiv. Her husband owns a residential house in the Kyiv-Sviatoshynskyi district, an apartment in Kyiv, and several land plots.

Among the expensive items she declared are a Swiss Ulysse Nardin watch, a ring, earrings, and a pendant.

In the vehicle section, it is stated that only Nataliya’s husband, Yuriy, owns a car. He owns a 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser.

Additionally, Nataliya Shaptala’s husband owns 25% of the capital of LLC "Zakhid Aquatrade".

In her declaration, the ex-judge indicated that she earned 2,873,807 hryvnias from her main job that year. She also received 14,316 hryvnias as a salary at the National Academy of Internal Affairs. Her pension amounted to 72,370 UAH.

Shaptala kept 377,623 UAH, 494 dollars, and 2086 euros in her bank accounts. In another bank, there was 13,006 UAH.

Various Facts

In 2010, Nataliya Shaptala was part of the Constitutional Court that made a decision to return to the 1996 Constitution. This decision annulled the 2004 constitutional reform and restored maximum powers to President Viktor Yanukovych. In 2017, Nataliya Shaptala was included in the top 100 most influential Ukrainian women (ranked sixty-first) according to "Focus" magazine. In February 2019, Shaptala was among the judges who supported the cancellation of the Criminal Code article on illegal enrichment. As a result, NABU was forced to close several high-profile investigations.

Personal Life

According to open sources, Nataliya Shaptala is married. The couple has two children.

Nataliya’s son, Vitaliy Shaptala, is a prosecutor at Kyiv Local Prosecutor’s Office No. 1. His wife, Yevheniya Shaptala, is also a prosecutor at Kyiv Local Prosecutor’s Office No. 1. Shaptala’s other son, Yevhen, is a judge at the Kyiv Court of Appeal of the Economic Court.
