U.S. President Donald Trump believes that during a conversation with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, the Russian side will agree to a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine.
This is reported by C-SPAN and Reuters.
In a conversation with media representatives, the American leader expressed his assessment of Russia’s readiness to agree to a 30-day truce, which was preliminarily arranged with official Kyiv during negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine and the USA in Jeddah.
Trump is convinced that the Russian side will not refuse.
"They will agree," noted the U.S. president.
Prior to this, Trump stated that during the conversation with Putin on March 18, the issues of possible territorial concessions from official Kyiv and control over the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, captured by the Russians, would be discussed.
"What is happening in Ukraine is not good, but we are trying to see if we can reach a peace agreement, a ceasefire, and peace, and I believe that we will be able to achieve this," the U.S. president told journalists in Washington.
Trump also expressed his opinion that his freezing of military aid to Ukraine at the beginning of March and the controversial meeting in the Oval Office on February 28 with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy "helped to persuade" Kyiv.
