Signal is the most secure messenger among popular applications, despite recent incidents in the USA.
This was stated in an interview with a military correspondent by the head of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov.
Budanov emphasized that Signal provides a high level of security compared to other messengers such as Telegram, Viber, or WhatsApp, due to its enhanced data protection, making it less vulnerable to external intrusions.
"Although recent events may give a different impression, Signal remains the most secure messenger of all those mentioned," he stressed.
The head of the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Intelligence also noted that attackers most often hack the mobile devices rather than the messengers themselves. Therefore, if hackers gain access to a smartphone, no application can guarantee absolute security.
Budanov also criticized the common belief about the safety of feature phones, emphasizing that it is more related to Russian practices of user control rather than information security. He added that using regular GSM communication poses a significant risk, as it can be intercepted 100% of the time.
"This is not protection, it’s control, and thus using feature phones is not so much for security as it is for control," he said.
