The Security Service of Ukraine has officially notified a woman of suspicion who committed an armed attack on a well-known volunteer and public activist Serhiy Sternenko on May 1.
According to the investigation, the 45-year-old native of the Odesa region, who lived in Kyiv, was recruited by Russian special services at the end of 2024 while searching for income online. Initially, she carried out reconnaissance tasks — monitoring cars, photographing them, and transmitting the information to her handlers.
Later, she received new instructions: changed her residence and made a homemade explosive device. In April, she began directly monitoring Serhiy Sternenko, moving into the same residential complex.
On the eve of the attack, the perpetrator received coordinates for a «cache», where a PM pistol with ammunition was located. On May 1, under the handler’s direction, she attempted the assassination of the activist. During the attack, one of the bullets hit Sternenko in the leg. The attacker was detained on the spot by SSU officers.
During searches, a phone with evidence of collaboration with the Russian Federation was found, as well as components of a homemade explosive device, which she kept in another apartment.
The woman is charged with treason under martial law, attempted contract murder, and premeditated conspiracy. She faces up to 15 years in prison.
The investigation continues. The SSU is establishing all details of the crime and those involved.
