The Kursk operation of the Defence Forces of Ukraine, which has been ongoing for nine months, has achieved most of its goals and has become an example of an unconventional and successful military campaign. During this time, it was possible to thwart the Russian plans for an offensive in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions and to create a buffer zone along the northern border.
This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, during a visit to the north, where he met with soldiers who participated in this operation. During the visit, he awarded the military personnel and also thanked them for their service.
"During the working trip, I awarded our soldiers who distinguished themselves during the Kursk operation. This operation, which has been ongoing for nine months, has achieved most of the set goals. Thanks to our active actions in the Kursk region, we managed to prevent the enemy’s offensive campaign in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. The buffer zone that the Defence Forces of Ukraine created in the border areas remains relevant even now," he noted.
According to him, the Ukrainian army acted unconventionally and unexpectedly for the enemy. This became one of the key reasons for success. The Kursk operation is evidence that even with the enemy’s numerical advantage, it is possible to strike decisively, accurately, and in places where the enemy does not expect it.
"Ukraine has shown that it is capable of counterattacking, striking, and pushing the enemy back, including on its own territory. This became possible thanks to specific military units, specific soldiers – the true heroes of the Ukrainian army," Syrskyi stated.
The Commander-in-Chief expressed special thanks to the soldiers of the 225th separate assault regiment. The unit performed extremely important work, operating on the front line in the border areas and continues to hold the defense in this direction.
"One of the units that successfully and effectively completed the assigned tasks in the Kursk region is the 225th separate assault regiment. And now, when we talk about a successful active defense in northern Ukraine and in the border areas of the Russian Federation, it is primarily about the 225th. I had the pleasant opportunity to communicate with its fighters and commanders and present them with high state and departmental military awards for exemplary resilience, courage, and heroism. Thank you, warriors. This is how we will win! Glory to Ukraine!" the Commander-in-Chief concluded.
