Ukrainian rescue services saved a man in the mountains of Poland

A Polish citizen injured his leg while climbing Mount Galych in the Republic of Poland and required assistance.

The Ukrainian 112 service helped rescue the man in the Polish mountains.

This was reported with reference to the State Emergency Service (SES).

It is noted that an atypical call was received by the 112 service in the Lviv region: a Polish citizen injured his leg while climbing Mount Galych in the Republic of Poland and required assistance.

“Due to the specifics of mobile coverage in the border mountainous area, his phone connected to a Ukrainian operator, which is why the call was received by the 112 service in Lviv region,” the report states.

The data was immediately transferred to the operational coordination center of the SES Lviv region. By contacting the victim, all the necessary information was promptly gathered: coordinates, phone battery level, and the condition of the victim. Mountain rescuers from the Lviv region were involved in the matter.

“The main coordination of international communication was undertaken by the specialists of the Ukrainian SES: the duty officer in Kyiv, together with a representative of the international department, organized an official communication channel with the Polish side. They coordinated further actions at the interstate level, ensuring coordinated interaction between the services of both countries for the prompt rescue of the victim,” added the SES.

The Polish Beskid Group Gopr, having received all the information from their Ukrainian colleagues, immediately set out to assist, found the man in critical condition, provided initial first aid, descended to the foot of the mountain, and handed him over to medics.
