Strike by Russia on Sumy region: houses destroyed, among the dead - a child

Around midnight on Tuesday, June 24, Russian occupation forces massively attacked a village in the Verkhniosyrovatska community of the Sumy region with strike UAVs. Three people were killed, including a 5-year-old boy, and six more residents were injured, half of whom were children.

The child’s body was recovered from the rubble of a destroyed house, as well as a man and a woman. This was reported by the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov.

"The strike took lives from different families. They all lived on the same street. They went to sleep in their homes. But Russian drones interrupted their sleep — forever. My sincere condolences to their loved ones," he wrote.

Three more people were rescued from the rubble. All of them have been hospitalized, one victim is in serious condition.

Initially, it was mistakenly reported that the boy killed by Russia was 8 years old. However, around noon, Hryhorov reported clarified information: the child was only 5.

"The boy who died last night was only 5 years old. The child was recovered from the rubble of the destroyed house. The child’s mother, older sister, and grandmother were injured. The Russian attack took the child and the home from the family. This is another consequence of Russia’s cynical attack on civilians," wrote the head of the Sumy RMA.

In addition to the three dead, six people were injured, Hryhorov added. Half of the injured are children.

"The victims suffer from multiple injuries — burns, fractures, in a state of acute stress reaction. Last night, the enemy directed eight strike UAVs at a residential street in the village of the Verkhniosyrovatska community. Over 20 private houses and cars were damaged and destroyed. A team is working on-site to eliminate the consequences. Every family will be provided with necessary assistance and support," the official emphasized.

According to SES, the cynical attack caused massive destruction in the residential sector. About 15 buildings were simultaneously burning on the territory of six private households.

Despite the high fire load, rescuers extinguished all eruption centers.

In the National Police, it was reported that as a result of the attack, three people died (a child, as well as a woman and a man from different families).

Another six people, three of whom are children, were injured with varying degrees of severity. All the injured have been hospitalized.

"As a result of the attack, about 30 residential buildings and four cars were damaged. A massive fire broke out. On the scene of the tragedy, investigative and operational police teams, rescuers, and medics are working," stated the NPU at 07:00.
