As a result of the Russian terrorist attack in Kyiv, damage was recorded on the territory of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studios. In particular, the blast wave knocked out about 90 windows, affecting production facilities.
This was reported by the press service of the State Film Agency of Ukraine. Fortunately, no one was killed.
"On the night of July 30 to 31, as a result of a massive missile strike from the aggressor country, the territory of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studios — one of the oldest and most important film studios in the world — was damaged," the statement said.
The State Film Agency’s press service clarified that during the morning missile strike, the studio’s production facilities and partially the hotel premises were damaged. The blast wave knocked out about 90 windows. It is noted that these are the most extensive damages since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
The Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studios is not only a place to make films but also a powerful center of national identity, with its unique archive, equipment, costumes, and creative achievements that have won numerous international awards. Legendary films were born here, including "Earth", "Enthusiasm (Symphony of Donbas)", "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors"—films that have gained worldwide recognition and remain classics of cinema art.
"These losses are not just material but a deliberate attempt by the enemy to erase the memory and cultural codes that have been formed over centuries. Dovzhenko Film Studios is a cultural symbol of Ukraine with more than a century-old history; it has become a center of Ukrainian poetic cinema and a hub of cultural resistance in the most difficult times... Russia once again demonstrates that the war is directed not only against the people but also against the heritage, culture, and future of Ukraine," the press service stated.
