Currently, 33% of the territory of the Donetsk region is under Ukraine’s control.
This was stated in an interview by the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Vadym Filashkin.
The Ukrainian official noted:
"The total area of the Donetsk region is 26.5 thousand square kilometers, temporarily occupied since 2014 - 8.5 thousand square kilometers (32%). As of July 24, 2025, the temporarily occupied area of the Donetsk region amounts to 17,804 square kilometers (67.2%). Therefore, 32.8% of the region’s territory is under the control of the Ukrainian authorities."
According to Filashkin, 847 out of 1,298 settlements in the Donetsk region are under Russian occupation, 447 of which have been occupied since 2014. Currently, 42 settlements have been liberated.
