Trump wants Europe to impose sanctions on Russia on its own, – Rubio

US President Donald Trump wants European countries to impose sanctions on Russia similar to those they expect from Washington.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated this in an interview with Fox News.

Rubio was asked how much time Trump would give Russian dictator Vladimir Putin before moving to impose sanctions on Russia.

In response, the Secretary of State said that everyone "perfectly understands" what sanctions the US could impose.

"At some point, the President may decide to apply them. It will be his decision. He is not going to artificially announce timelines," Rubio added.

According to the American official, it is also important for Europe to impose sanctions, as there are still European countries buying Russian products, including oil.

"The President has tasked our European partners with imposing the sanctions they are calling on us to implement. So if they are truly deeply convinced of this, we want to urge them to take the real steps they themselves are talking about," he added.
