Norway announced billion-dollar aid to Ukraine

The total amount of aid from Norway to Ukraine next year will remain at the current level and will be at least 85 billion kroner (about 8.5 billion dollars).

This was announced by the Norwegian government on Wednesday, October 15.

It is specified that out of these funds, about 15 billion kroner will be provided as civilian aid (which will increase by 2.5 billion kroner), and 70 billion kroner as military aid.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that the civilian aid would go towards ensuring electricity and heating for homes, supporting the operation of hospitals and schools, and assisting the population near the front line.

Additional funds will be directed towards enhancing energy security, reconstruction, budgetary support for the authorities, and doubling allocations to the Norfund Investment Fund for business in Ukraine. Humanitarian support will also be increased.

At the same time, the majority of the funding will be allocated to military support.

"The government will continue its work within the joint initiative of the Nordic, Baltic, and Polish countries to provide equipment and training for Ukrainian military personnel. We will also intensify efforts in the Naval Military Support Coalition for Ukraine, procure equipment from the Ukrainian defense industry, and strengthen priority capabilities such as artillery, UAVs, autonomous systems, and air defense," said Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik.

If the Norwegian parliament Storting approves the budget project, the total support for Ukraine from Norway for 2023-2030 will amount to 275 billion Norwegian kroner (slightly more than 27 billion dollars).
