In the US, problems have arisen with Zelenskyy regarding the cessation of the war.
This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
«The American side assured us that they would be able to convince Zelenskyy not to hinder the achievement of peace. However, it seems that certain difficulties have arisen in this matter. Moreover, according to our information, Brussels and London are trying to persuade Washington to abandon the idea of resolving the crisis through diplomatic means and to fully join the efforts to exert military pressure on Russia, that is, to definitively side with the «war party»,» the Russian minister noted.
According to Lavrov, Russia is currently awaiting «confirmation from the US that the agreements reached in Anchorage remain relevant.»
The minister explained that these «mutual understandings» are based on Putin’s statements from June 2024 (when he set the condition for a ceasefire as the withdrawal of Ukrainian Armed Forces from four regions of Ukraine - Ed.), as well as on proposals «conveyed to us shortly before Anchorage by the US President’s special representative Witkoff.»
As a reminder, according to media reports, Putin in Anchorage agreed to soften his demands and support a ceasefire after the withdrawal of Ukrainian Armed Forces only from the Donetsk region.
Moscow has repeatedly hinted that at the Anchorage meeting, Trump supported Putin’s proposals and promised to pressure Zelenskyy to accept them, but ultimately did not do so, and later returned to the idea of stopping the war along the front line, which, in Russia’s opinion, contradicts the agreements reached in Anchorage.
Washington has not officially confirmed this information. However, media reported that Trump and Witkoff pressured Zelenskyy to withdraw troops from the entire territory of Donbas.
