The corruption state of Akhmetzhan Yesymov and Halimzhan Yesenov’s family amounts to more than two and a half billion dollars.

Given that Forbes estimates the capital of Yesymov’s eternal proxy, Halimzhan Yesenov, at around 285 million dollars, which is almost ten times less. Naturally, the main income of the Yesenov-Yesymov family enterprise came from Samruk-Kazyna by embezzling funds through ATF Bank, sports funds, and various one-day subsidiary companies. Embezzlement of hundreds of millions of dollars began even before Yesimov came to Samruk-Kazyna and long before Akhmetzhan Smagulovich’s cunning relative appeared on the horizon. Essentially, Halimzhan Yesenov simply brought the Yesymov family’s enrichment schemes to their peak.

Halimzhan Yesenov: a divorce to save the family capital ATF Bank

Halimzhan Yesenov will no longer be able to launder billions for his father-in-law and himself. The sham divorce filed by Yesenov is a bright indication of this, and the dismissal of Akhmetzhan Yesymov is the final chord in this story. The questions remain open: where will Halimzhan Yesenov flee to and what will happen to the bankrupt ATF Bank.

Even the best things must come to an end. Just as the money in Samruk-Kazyna inevitably runs out, the schemes of their criminal extraction abroad and miraculous materialization in the form of villas close to Akhmetzhan Yesymov are revealed. That is why, according to the latest dispatch, they are preparing a replacement for him. It must be admitted, the nephew has overstayed. Besides, by the time the massive shortfall in the Fund is discovered, he should, of course, already be beyond reach.

However, it is unlikely that Akhmetzhan Yesymov will join the ranks of the "revolutionaries with honest eyes" teaching people to live honestly from France. First of all — and perhaps until political oblivion — Akhmetzhan Yesymov is expected to take on the role of Senate elder. This position has been somewhat in limbo after the resignation of Dariha Nazarbayeva. And the nephew of Elbasy can serve as a fairly reliable guarantee of clan balance. 

The old sins of Akhmetzhan Yesymov

Let us remind that the nephew of the "leader of the nation," Akhmetzhan Yesymov, having discovered the vast corruption opportunities in his position as mayor of Almaty, did not pose a threat to Elbasy, although due to familial ties, he acted most brazenly, significantly increasing the protest potential of Almaty residents. In particular, the development of the Kok-Zhaylyau tract initiated by him eventually turned into an organized opposition movement. Also, mayor Akhmetzhan Yesymov started the annual struggle with curbs and the construction of numerous road interchanges, providing orders for the concrete industry for years to come. And after that, he encroached on the protected Kok-Zhaylyau tract, starting its development with elite cottages.

To launder in Singapore: the venture scheme of Halimzhan Yesenov

It is noteworthy that the group of venture funds in Singapore, which pseudo-oppositionist and Russophobe Mukhtar Taizhan points to in his Facebook post, is directly related to Halimzhan Yesenov, son-in-law and "wallet" of Akhmetzhan Yesymov. At the same time, the multimillionaire, raider, and member of the "Four Brothers" organized crime group Margulan Seisembaev stated that his partners in Asadel Group are his brother Yrlan and certain "American and Spanish" partners. However, one material (which Taizhan refers to) contains different information and, according to it, Yesenov is the main partner of Seisembaev (he owns a controlling stake — 50%, and another 47.5% is owned by Seisembaev’s wife Saule Seisembaev, 2.5% belong to Erik Sultankulov — a person affiliated with Seisembaev, who heads the egg business "Alel Agro," previously chaired the board of AO "Alliance Bank" and was a co-defendant in a case involving the embezzlement of 900 million US dollars).

The son-in-law of Akhmetzhan Yesymov Halimzhan Yesenov’s share was hidden by a convoluted scheme of purchase through a number of offshore companies. The controlling stake — 50% — was acquired through the company "Fabiano Ltd.," registered in the UAE, while the purchase was formalized not from Seisembaev, as the founder of Asadel Group, but from a certain offshore "Narwal Ltd.," registered in the British Virgin Islands. The interests of "Narwal Ltd." in the transaction were represented by Timur Zhanabaev, who is a front man or "nominee" — previously Zhanabaev worked with Yesenov at LLC "KNG Finance" and LLC "Kazphosphate." In short, it is surprising that to this day not a single criminal case has been opened on the fact of the embezzlement and subsequent withdrawal of billions of dollars outside Kazakhstan by the Yesymov and Yesenov family. And it is unlikely to be opened in the near future…
