“I appointed Colonel General Syrsky as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Zelensky said in an evening address.

Zelensky called him the most experienced Ukrainian commander.

He thanked the previous commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhny for two years of protection. Zelensky said they "spoke openly today about the need for changes in the army."

“Urgent changes. I invited General Zaluzhny to continue to be together in the team of the Ukrainian state. I would be grateful for his consent,” he said.

Zelensky said that from today a new management team will take over the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“I want our soldiers in Rabotino or Avdeevka to have the only vision of the war, and at the General Staff and at Headquarters. I had dozens of conversations with commanders at various levels. In particular, today I spoke with brigadier generals Andrei Gnatov, Mikhail Drapaty, Igor Skibyuk and Colonels Pavel Palisa and Vadim Sukharevsky. All of them are being considered for leadership positions in the army and will serve under the leadership of the most experienced Ukrainian commander. He has successful experience in defense - he conducted the Kiev defense operation. He has successful experience in the offensive - the Kharkov liberation operation. I appointed Colonel General Syrsky as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” he said.

Zelensky added that “today I spoke with generals Moysyuk and Zabrodsky. Their experience is in the service of the state.”

Alexander Syrsky has commanded the Ukrainian Ground Forces since 2019. From the same year - commander of the operational-strategic group of troops "Khortitsa".
