The occupiers turned the Avdiivka coking plant into ruins: “It cannot be restored”

Russia’s terrorist forces destroyed one of the largest coke plants in Europe - Avdiivka Coke in Donetsk region. They launched a huge number of bombs, missiles and other shells at the plant.

The other day, footage of the ruins into which the enemy turned the Avdiivka coke plant appeared on the Internet. They were published in his Telegram channel by Ukrainian journalist and blogger Denys Kazanskyi.

“The enterprise where the entire city worked was destroyed and cannot be restored. There is no longer a city, no factory, no people. They famously “liberated”…” he commented.

The video, shot by a drone, is truly apocalyptic. Numerous buildings and structures of the plant became ruins, and those that survived the explosions were still broken by shell fragments and debris.

The Russian occupiers planted their flag over the destroyed plant with the capture of the same Avdiivka they destroyed on February 17, 2024. Currently, Avdiivka coke plant cannot be restored.

ACP is an enterprise in the Donetsk region with a 60-year history, which was the largest and most modern in its industry. It produced hundreds of millions of tons of gross coke, processed thousands of millions of tons of coal tar, and produced many tons of phthalic anhydride, benzene and ammonium sulfate. About 4,000 people worked there. They produced more than 30 types of products, the main of which was blast furnace coke, used in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy as a technological fuel, and as an energy raw material in almost all sectors of the economy. ACP accounted for about 20% of the total gross output of blast furnace coke in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the war in eastern Ukraine, more than 320 shells exploded on the territory of the enterprise (as of 2017), 12 workers were killed, and more than 50 people were injured. The plant was forced to stop work 15 times, and the plant was completely cut off more than 200 times. Despite the destruction, the Avdiivka Coke Plant continued to operate and put new units into operation, which increased the efficiency of its operation.

With the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022-2023, the plant suffered even more damage from Russian shelling. In May 2022, the Metinvest group carried out the process of mothballing ACP.

At the end of 2023, it became known that due to the destruction caused by Russian shelling, the Avdiivka coking plant would be impossible to restore after the end of the war.
