The AP publication writes that the US Army is preparing for a possible big war.
To achieve this, a restructuring is being carried out: 24 thousand empty and irrelevant positions are being closed, it is planned to recruit 7,500 military personnel for in-demand positions, such as air defense, counter-drone units, five new task forces around the world with expanded capabilities in the field of cybernetics, reconnaissance and long-range strikes.
"We’re moving away from counterterrorism and counterinsurgency. We want to be ready for large-scale combat operations," explains Army Secretary Christine Wormuth.
It is emphasized that it is not people who will be cut, but positions that the army has not been able to fill for many years.
The US Army in its current structure could have up to 494,000 soldiers. There are now 445,000 in military service. Over the next five years, Americans want to reach 470,000.
