
In Ukraine, fraudsters do not refuse to counterfeit hryvnia banknotes. Over the past 2023, for every 1 million real banknotes there were about 2.1 counterfeit ones. More often, Ukrainians were given counterfeit old-style banknotes – those issued before 2015. First of all – 200 UAH.

“Other counterfeit hryvnia banknotes withdrawn from circulation accounted for only 7%,” the regulator said.
Fraudsters counterfeit old-style banknotes because they are less secure.
In particular, high denominations of 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 hryvnia, which the National Bank introduced into circulation in 2015 - 2020. To protect these banknotes, which most often attract the attention of attackers, innovative optically replaceable security elements were used: they are easy for citizens to verify, but extremely difficult for attackers to reproduce,” the NBU said.
