Only 3% of these Russian munitions attacked military targets in Ukraine in 2024. While 97% hit civilian infrastructure.
Defence Minister Rustem Umerov stated this while speaking at an extraordinary meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council. It took place on Thursday, March 28, at the request of Ukraine.
The main focus of the speech was the recent massive Russian airstrikes and the need to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
“The total explosive power of combined airstrikes in Ukraine since the beginning of the year exceeds nine kilotons. Only 3% of these Russian missiles, drones and guided bombs hit military targets, while 97% hit civilian infrastructure,” Rustem Umerov noted.
During his speech, the head of the department also provided a detailed overview of the urgent air defence needs of Ukraine.
“The support of partners is very important in this matter. Thousands of innocent lives will be saved. The more Russian missiles are shot down in the Ukrainian sky, the less threat they will pose to NATO member states bordering our country,” the minister concluded.
