Those serving military service abroad have had their access to consular services suspended.

Recently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine ordered to suspend the issuance of foreign passports and the provision of other consular services abroad for men 18-60 years old, without waiting for the law on mobilization to come into force. The head of the department, Dmytro Kuleba, argued his decision by saying that staying abroad does not relieve a citizen of his duties to Ukraine.

“If these people believe that someone there, far at the front, is fighting and giving their lives for this state, and someone will sit abroad, but at the same time will receive services from this state, it doesn’t work.” , - said the minister.

Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published official answers to pressing questions. They reported that they had decided to temporarily limit the provision of consular services to men, since they “sought to protect citizens from a situation where the service they ordered could not be performed.” That is, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is worried that the processing time for new applications for document processing may exceed the time when the new rules come into effect.

The restrictions, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be in force until May 18, 2024, when the law comes into force. After this, men will again be able to apply for consular services, taking into account the new requirements.
