European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton said that the EU has begun work on opening the Office of Defence Innovation in Kyiv.
Breton said this at the EU-Ukraine defense industry forum on Monday.
Breton recalled that the EU recently adopted a new defence industry strategy.
“The strategy is intended not only to support European defense readiness, but also to strengthen ties between the European and Ukrainian defense industries,” Breton said.
He added that the new strategy sets a clear priority for further development of cooperation.
That’s why we will open a Defense Innovation Office in Kyiv - to create a bridge between innovative startups in the EU and Ukrainian companies and the Armed Forces, so that European startups can help Ukrainian soldiers on the battlefield. And I am glad that practical work to accomplish this task has already begun,” Breton said.
Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleksandr Kamyshyn said before the forum that work is now underway to formulate the tasks and structure of the Office.
