The Security Service detained a Russian military intelligence agent who was monitoring the locations of Ukrainian troops defending Krasnohorivka in Donetsk region. He was helping the enemy prepare the capture of the town in Pokrovsk district.
The press service of the department reports this. The enemy paid special attention to the coordinates of the combat positions of artillery and units of unmanned systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, holding assault groups of invaders under fire.
The Russian military used this intelligence to plan military operations to capture the city and further advance in the Kurakhove direction. To collect information, the Russian intelligence services recruited a local resident, who, under the guise of performing auxiliary work, walked around the territory of the community and recorded the location of Ukrainian troops.
After reconnaissance forays, he transmitted the collected information to the occupiers through an anonymous chat in the messenger. The SSU promptly exposed his activities, detained the agent and took measures to protect Ukrainian positions.
The investigation established that the agent was in constant contact with a career employee of the Russian GRU, who had already been identified. It is known that Russian intelligence recruited him because of his pro-Kremlin views, which he actively disseminated among his acquaintances.
Based on the collected evidence, the SSU filed suspicion against the detainee under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason under martial law). He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment.
