Final declaration of the NATO summit: full membership of Ukraine has become irreversible

NATO has published a joint declaration of the anniversary summit, which takes place in Washington on July 9-11. A number of points in the document concern Ukraine. In particular, the declaration notes the inevitability of Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance, and NATO has also officially agreed on military assistance to Kyiv in the amount of 40 billion euros over the course of 2025.

It said that through proportionate contributions, Alliance members intend to provide Ukraine with a minimum core funding of €40 billion over the next year and ensure a sustainable level of security assistance.

The document states that Ukraine’s future lies in NATO, as it becomes more operational and politically integrated with the Alliance. The bloc also welcomes the progress that the state has achieved since the Vilnius reform summit.

“As long as Ukraine continues this vital work, we will continue to support it on its irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership. We reaffirm that we will be able to extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance when NATO members agree and the conditions are met.” , says the declaration.

In addition, the document announced the creation of the Security Assistance and Training Service for Ukraine (NSATU) to coordinate the supply of military equipment and training of military personnel. Its goal is to put Kyiv’s security on a solid footing by providing enhanced, presumptive and coordinated support.

The service, operating in the countries of the Alliance, will support the country’s self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter and will contribute to the transformation of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine, ensuring its further integration with NATO.

Also at the summit, NATO members supported the creation of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Center (JATEC), an important pillar of practical cooperation to identify and apply lessons from Russia’s war against Ukraine and enhance the country’s interoperability with NATO.
