Britain does not allow Ukraine to fire Storm Shadow missiles at Russia

The publication notes that the British government’s policy on the use of weapons provided by the Armed Forces of Ukraine has become very confusing. So confusing that even Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy felt embarrassed at a meeting this month with new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

In particular, Starmer announced his readiness to ease restrictions on the use of British Storm Shadow missiles for Ukraine. However, the British Ministry of Defence later stated that it had not actually given such permission.

This is due to the fact that before making such a decision, Great Britain had to agree on it with France. Sources to The Times explained that France, along with Britain, produces this type of missile and is an important NATO ally.

In this regard, the UK cannot make unilateral decisions on issues that could escalate the conflict with Russia. It is not yet clear whether there is a legal basis for obtaining permission from France and other allies.

According to one of The Times’ sources, Britain has already sent inquiries to its allies and is waiting for a response before discussing the issue with Ukraine.
