In Sumy Oblast, 21,000 citizens have already been evacuated from border settlements, and another 25,000, including children, are ready for evacuation. According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, 70% of children have already been evacuated.

He spoke about this on the telethon.

"At the moment, 21 thousand of our citizens living in the border settlements of Sumy region have been evacuated. We are ready to evacuate another 25 thousand people, including children. Already 70% of children have been evacuated," Klymenko said.

According to Klymenko, they are educating the population about the importance of this evacuation. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is cooperating with the Sumy Regional Police Department, which is determining the settlements that must be evacuated.

"Now the White Angels group will begin its work in the Sumy region to teach local police and rescuers to create their own squads. They will work on armored vehicles," Klymenko added.

He said that the evacuation algorithm is determined by local authorities, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs works at the final stages. Also, so that people who have already evacuated do not worry about their property, the police are leaving the cities with additional patrols.

"As for humanitarian aid, people who were unable to leave are periodically supplied with food. As a rule, shops in border settlements are not working due to the lack of electricity and water. In some villages, engineering structures have been destroyed," he added.

Klymenko also notes that doctors arrive in such settlements if necessary.

The Minister of Internal Affairs said that the Russians are deliberately shelling frontline settlements, knowing that evacuations are taking place there. He notes that they are prepared for any development of the situation, if it comes to forced evacuation.

According to him, evacuees are being accepted by relatively safe regions. Currently, most people are being accepted by Sumy Region, but we are also talking about Kyiv and Poltava Regions. Also, some recreational facilities are accepting some of the evacuees.
