Army Academy in Lviv abused cadets - SBI

The former head of the course at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi Ground Forces Academy in Lviv is suspected of beating and humiliating cadets.

The officer beat and humiliated cadets for almost two years, trying to "teach" them discipline and order. This happened on the territory of the academy in Lviv and in the barracks in one of the villages of the region, as reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.

"He intimidated the cadets so much that they silently endured all the abuse and did not tell their parents or the psychologist about it. The investigation revealed the use of force against nine cadets, whom the teacher hit on the head and other parts of the body. He hit not only with his hands, but also with the butt of a gun and a belt. The officer was dissatisfied with carelessly folded things, errors in the logbook, or the fact that the cadet was slow in filling out documents or handing over a weapon," the SBI statement said.

The "educational methods" became known only in March of this year, after one of the cadets, who witnessed the teacher’s abuse, complained to the Verkhovna Rada investigative commission. After that, a criminal case was registered.

The court chose a preventive measure for the officer - detention with the possibility of bail. The defendant paid the bail amount - 908.4 thousand hryvnia.
