Expert Volodymyr Omelchenko did not rule out the possibility that Ukrainians may be left without heat and light in winter. However, he warned that the population does not have sufficient information.

A complete blackout in Ukraine is not impossible, but its risk is quite low. This was reported on the Kyiv TV channel on September 13 by the director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, Volodymyr Omelchenko.

He explained that anything is possible in the world, even a meteorite falling. However, the question is how likely the so-called energy catastrophe is.

The expert noted that the possibility of a complete blackout, when Ukrainians will be left without light and heat, exists this winter. However, the probability of such a development is low.

"I am generally not very inclined towards speculation regarding forecasts, as there are too many unknown factors," Omelchenko noted.

He explained that Ukrainians do not know the exact plans of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, just as the exact level of Ukraine’s air defense capabilities remains unknown.

"And it’s right that we don’t know. No one should know," the expert emphasized.

He also added that Ukrainians cannot predict the weather conditions for the winter.

"To say that there will be a catastrophe, that someone knows the exact scenario is about the same as predicting what the price of oil will be on the New York Stock Exchange in six months. In my opinion, this is just voluntarism," Omelchenko said.

He advised seeking forecasts from "Ukrenergo" since the company has the most information and can genuinely predict the situation. At the same time, many experts, according to him, are just speculating on this topic.

"I still don’t see a catastrophe as such. There’s no need to scare people, they are already filled with fear," Omelchenko added.
