Germany will provide Ukraine with missiles for FrankenSAM systems
Berlin announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, including weapon systems that have not previously been supplied for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — Sea Sparrow and Sidewinder missiles.
On October 17, the German government published an updated list of military assistance for Ukraine, which includes anti-aircraft missiles for Ukrainian FrankenSAM air defence systems. This package is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities amidst the ongoing war with Russia.
Main points of the assistance package
According to data published on the official website of the German government, the Defence Forces received a wide range of weapons and equipment, including armored vehicles, self-propelled artillery systems, engineering equipment, ammunition, and IRIS-T air defence systems. The package includes the following types of weapons and equipment:
- Leopard 1A5 tanks — 8 units;
- Marder IFVs — 20 units (including ammunition and spare parts);
- Ammunition for Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks;
- MRAPs — 4 units;
- IRIS-T SLM and IRIS-T SLS air defense systems — 2 systems;
- IRIS-T SLM and Sea Sparrow anti-aircraft missiles;
- Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers — 6 units with spare parts;
- 155 mm ammunition — 24,000 units;
- Vector reconnaissance drones — 30 units with spare parts;
- BEAVER bridge-laying vehicle — 1 unit with spare parts;
- WISENT 1 mine clearance vehicles — 2 units with spare parts;
- H-PEMBS portable demining systems — 100 units;
- Mine detectors — 90 units;
- Mine sweep — 1 unit;
- Mobile antenna masts — 2 units;
- Laser rangefinders — 57 units;
- RGW 90 grenade launchers — 3,000 units;
- 40 mm ammunition — 25,000 units;
- Tourniquets — 75,000 units;
- Occlusive dressings — 150,000 units;
- MK 556 assault rifles — 460 units;
- HLR 338 sniper rifles — 110 units with 240,000 rounds;
- HAENEL CR 308 rifles — 30 units;
- SFP9 pistols — 3,000 units.
Future Deliveries
The German government also confirmed new planned deliveries, including:
- AIM-9L/I-1 Sidewinder missiles;
- TRML-4D radars — 2 units;
- Strike drones — 4,000 units;
- SONGBIRD reconnaissance drones — 361 units;
- 40 mm ammunition — 42,000 units.
