The Siverskyi Donets-Donbas Canal, which is currently dry, passes through Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region and is being used as a defense line by Ukrainian military forces.
This was reported by military expert Pavlo Narozhnyi.
According to him, Russian forces have repeatedly attempted to cross the canal in Chasiv Yar, but Ukrainian military forces have repelled enemy attacks each time and strengthened their defense. "Whether this will be possible once again is hard to say," Narozhnyi noted.
He clarified that the Russians are attacking Chasiv Yar using air bombs, artillery, and missiles, gradually destroying buildings one by one, making it increasingly difficult to hold the city.
"We hope that our defenders will be able to hold their positions. This is an extremely important defense line. If the enemy crosses the canal and secures a position in Chasiv Yar, we will have to retreat a significant distance. Beyond Chasiv Yar are large cities such as Kostyantynivka, Slovyansk, and Kramatorsk, and defending them will be much more difficult," concluded the military expert.
