In the Vinnytsia region, border guards detained two escapees on inflatable mattresses

According to the department, one of the offenders tried to swim across the river, while the other attempted to return unnoticed. However, neither managed to achieve their goal.

Border guards of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) detained two local residents who attempted to cross the state border using inflatable mattresses.

This was reported by the SBGS.

"Technical means recorded the movement of two men towards the border, and the exact location of the swimmers was determined using a quadcopter. At the time they were discovered, they were already prepared for the ’swim’ across the Dniester," the report says.

When the men realized they had been noticed, they chose different tactics. One of the offenders still decided to swim across the river on the mattress, while the other attempted to return unnoticed, but both failed to execute their plans.

"Upon hearing the sound of a boat engine, the swimmer abandoned the mattress and rushed back to the Ukrainian shore via the shallows, vainly trying to avoid a meeting with the border guards, but he was quickly apprehended. Meanwhile, the other offender, trying to avoid pursuit, attempted to escape on foot, but the border guards stopped him with warning shots fired into the air," added the State Border Guard Service.

The department clarified that administrative protocols were drawn up against both offenders under Part 2 of the article "Illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine" and the article "Malicious disobedience to a lawful order or demand of a serviceman or employee of the SBGS of Ukraine, or a member of a public formation for the protection of public order and the state border."

The cases have been referred to court for legal resolutions.
