Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair announced that his country has already delivered a NASAMS air defense system to Ukraine. It was ordered from the United States back in 2023.

Blair told reporters in Ottawa, reports "Ukrinform." "I cannot disclose more details for operational security, but we finally managed to deliver it," he noted.

According to the minister, NASAMS will change the situation, as "it will allow Ukrainians to protect their settlements."

Blair also mentioned that the Canadian government worked closely with the United States and the manufacturer Raytheon on assembling this system and delivering it. On November 21, he noted that this NASAMS system is in Poland and will soon be transported across the border into Ukraine.

Let us remind you that Canada announced its intention to deliver a NASAMS air defense system to Ukraine on January 10, 2023. It was expected that Ottawa would reimburse the United States for the full cost of the new system, and the US would enter into a direct contract for the supply of this weaponry to Ukraine. This was supposed to allow Canada to bypass the requirement for obtaining US permission for the re-export of NASAMS to Ukraine.

However, the implementation of this project faced a number of bureaucratic hurdles that slowed its execution. Additionally, manufacturing each NASAMS system takes approximately two years.
