The Office of the Prosecutor General initiated a criminal proceeding regarding the shooting of five Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russians in the Donetsk region. 

This was reported on Tuesday, November 26, by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the investigation, Russian military forces committed another war crime in November during an assault on Defence Forces positions near the village of Petrivka in the Pokrovskyi district of the Donetsk region. Currently, the village is on the line of contact.

The Office of the Prosecutor General opened a criminal case regarding the shooting of five Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russians in the Donetsk region. The captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were executed in the direction of Pokrovsk, reported on Tuesday, November 26, by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the investigation, Russian military forces committed another war crime in November during an assault on Defence Forces positions near the village of Petrivka in the Pokrovsky district of the Donetsk region. Currently, the village is on the line of contact.

«During the offensive, five servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were forced to retreat and hide in a private house. Once the building was surrounded, Russian military forces took the Ukrainian defenders captive. They were forced to leave their cover unarmed and lie on the ground. Violating the norms of international humanitarian law, the occupiers shot the Ukrainian captives with automatic weapons», – reported the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

The press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General emphasized that the execution of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Convention. In this regard, law enforcement authorities opened a criminal case under part 2 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (committing a war crime combined with premeditated murder).
