Attack with ATACMS missiles on Russian airfield: The Armed Forces of Ukraine could have destroyed important targets

On November 25, ATACMS missiles struck the "Khalino" airbase. This airfield is the closest to the site of the Kursk operation battles. As a result of the attack, several Su-25 aircraft may have been damaged.

This was reported by military expert, flight instructor, and retired Ukrainian Armed Forces colonel Roman Svitan, informs Channel 24.

According to him, the Russians have relocated their aircraft to airfields where they receive full servicing. The enemy has hidden its aviation at airbases over 300 kilometers from the line of combat.

Svitan also emphasized that the airfields from which the aircraft were moved are still used as operational jumping airfields. And in this mode, they might have Su-25 type aircraft on them.

"These aircraft are optimally supplied with ammunition while performing direct tasks. It is much more convenient for them to carry out combat missions, taking off from the ’Khalino’ airfield, where the flight time is several tens of minutes," he stressed.

Svitan suggests that if 90% of Russian aircraft have been relocated deeper into their territory, then among the 10% that remain closer to the border with Ukraine, those specific Su-25s might remain.

"Also, some aircraft cannot take off during the relocation for various reasons, such as due to maintenance work, which cannot be quickly completed. Thus, they are left under attack at these airfields," the flight instructor explained.

Currently, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine have not confirmed that these aircraft were hit. However, in the military expert’s opinion, such a possibility theoretically exists.

"However, the main objective of this strike with ATACMS missiles was to disable the airfield’s technical equipment and the anti-aircraft missile system. The hunt was specifically for them. If aircraft also got hit in the attack, that’s very good," Svitan summarized.
