In temporarily occupied Donetsk, Russian invaders have sentenced nine Ukrainian defenders of Mariupol to between 24 years and life imprisonment.
This was reported on Telegram by the Mariupol City Council.
«In occupied Donetsk, the so-called «DPR court» announced a verdict against nine servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine», - the message states.
The city council noted that the Russians accuse the defenders of shelling the village of Staryi Krym in Mariupol in March 2022 and have issued sentences ranging from 24 years to life imprisonment.
The sentences have been given to servicemen of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces: Andriy Shestak, Nazariy Moroz, Vladyslav Yavorskyi, Vadym Shulha, Serhiy Yampolskyi, Maksym Kolbasin, Dmytro Shalara, Volodymyr Penzin, and Kostyantyn Romanyuk.
It is emphasized that they all defended Mariupol from Russian occupiers, were located on the territory of the "Azovstal" metallurgical plant, and were subsequently captured by Russian forces.
The defenders of Mariupol will serve their sentences in a high-security penal colony.
