In Ukraine, fraudsters are exploiting the state program "Winter eSupport" ("Zelenskyy’s thousand") to steal data and money from citizens. For instance, one Ukrainian was scammed out of 71,000 UAH.

This was reported by Monobank co-owner and founder Oleg Gorokhovsky. He noted that scammers call Ukrainians, "accept applications" for funds – and then "act depending on the client’s behavior".

"In the most ’spectacular’ case, the client transferred the entire balance, 71,000 hryvnias, to a new account specially opened to receive 1000 UAH. One needs to be more cautious," Gorokhovsky said.

Earlier, the Main Directorate of the National Police reported on another scheme that fraudsters use to steal data and money from Ukrainians under the guise of the "winter" 1000 UAH. In particular, they create phishing sites that resemble official resources. To do this:

  • Fraudsters send messages via messengers or social networks offering quick state payments.

The link leads to a fake site that mimics an official resource.

  • On the fake site, users are required to enter confidential data.

As soon as the person enters the data, the fraudsters gain access to their account. The money is withdrawn instantly, and it is often extremely difficult to return it.

How to protect yourself from fraudsters

To avoid falling into the fraudsters’ trap, certain rules should be followed. In particular:

  • Avoid clicking on suspicious links.

Especially if they come from unknown persons or sources.

  • Do not enter confidential information – passwords, PIN codes, CVV codes, and account numbers.
  • Verify information about payments.

Look for information on state support programs exclusively on official websites or in the Diia application.

  • Use antivirus programs.

They can warn about dangerous links and protect your data.
