El Pais notes that Trump’s position does not seem entirely negative.

The newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump "sent a message" to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, urging him to consider a ceasefire. It also mentions the abandonment of occupied territories.

This is reported by El Pais.

Trump emphasized that while Ukrainians seek to reclaim their lands, many cities are so destroyed that their reconstruction makes no sense. "It’s a 110-year reconstruction," he added, questioning the feasibility of such rebuilding.

Meanwhile, according to several anonymous European sources, Trump’s position does not seem entirely negative. General Keith Kellogg, appointed as the U.S. representative in Ukraine, positively assessed new weapons packages from Joe Biden’s administration and the approval for strikes on Russian territory. Sources note that Trump seeks peace but from a position of strength, as maintaining the image of a strong leader is important to him.

European leaders are also trying to persuade Trump that a peace deal favorable to Russia could strengthen China and Iran, allies of the Kremlin, and disrupt the balance of power in the world.

"Trump has not yet made a final decision, one day he demonstrates one position, and the next another, so it is important to act now and convey our messages," a source in the Ukrainian government noted.

El Pais reports that discussions on possible negotiations and security guarantees remain confidential.
