The diplomat commented on Trump’s position on Ukraine

Due to the position of the future US President Donald Trump, Ukraine is in a "zone of very serious risks". Meanwhile, the main communicator between the United States and Europe could be Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who supports our country.

This view was expressed by diplomat Oleh Shamshur, former extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Ukraine to the US and France. In an interview with OBOZ.UA, he noted:

"What we know today about Trump’s position causes me deep pessimism. In my opinion, we are in a zone of very serious risks, and what we heard in the last few days, that Trump might reduce military aid to Ukraine, is obviously what [Vladimir] Putin would like to hear."

Keith Kellogg, whom Trump wants to see as the US special representative for Ukraine and Russia, will come to Kyiv for negotiations to "assess the position and degree of flexibility" of our leadership.

"And he, obviously, as an experienced and competent person, also aims to feel the atmosphere in the offices of the Ukrainian authorities and in the state as a whole. And all this he will bring back to Trump, who will make final conclusions," the expert suggested.

He added that the main communicator between the US and Europe may not be the head of France Emmanuel Macron or even the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, but Giorgia Meloni.

She is ideologically the closest to Trump; the elected American leader respects her.

"It is no coincidence that [Elon] Musk, Trump, and Meloni had dinner together after the official opening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral. After this, Trump stated that he was ready to work with Meloni.

"She is fantastic. She is a fantastic leader and person," he said.

Fortunately for us, although she is an extreme conservative, she supports Ukraine and takes a favorable position for us," Shamshur noted.

He does not rule out that the future President of the United States wants to give Meloni an important role in finding ways to end the war in Ukraine, making her a "bridge" between the White House, Europe, and Ukraine.
