The European Union has provided Ukraine with the second tranche of budgetary support amounting to 150 million euros, a significant portion of which is intended for providing hot meals in schools.

This was stated in a message from the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.

It is reported that a total of 65 million euros from this funding will be directed towards supporting Ukraine’s school nutrition policy, aimed at providing free and healthy meals for primary school students across the country.

This initiative is a key component of the EU’s extensive efforts to assist Ukraine in recovering and strengthening its resilience amid ongoing aggression from Russia. According to the EU’s assessment, thanks to the 65 million euros, over 700,000 young school-aged children, including students in grades 1-4, will receive hot meals once a day at no cost to their families.

The provision of free hot meals aims not only to improve students’ health but also to create a safe and supportive educational environment for Ukrainian children, as noted in the message.

School nutrition funding is part of the second EU tranche of 150 million euros aimed at accelerating Ukraine’s recovery and rebuilding critical infrastructure, the EU embassy emphasized.

In addition to the 65 million euros allocated for school meals, the remaining 85 million euros will be directed towards supporting critical infrastructure facilities, food security, and reconstruction projects, which are vital for Ukraine’s recovery, specifically: 50 million euros for the repair and modernization of port infrastructure in Odesa, 15 million euros for the implementation of various infrastructure projects vital for recovery, and 20 million euros for supporting policies aimed at ensuring food security for the Ukrainian population.
