On January 1 at 07:00, Ukraine stopped the transportation of Russian natural gas through its territory in the interest of national security.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy.
Ukraine officially informed its international partners about this.
"We stopped the transit of Russian gas, this is a historic event. Russia is losing markets, and it suffers financial losses. Europe has already decided to abandon Russian gas. The European initiative Repower EU provides for exactly what Ukraine has done today," emphasized the Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko.
As of January 1, the Ukrainian gas transmission system operates without the transit of Russian gas. The infrastructure of the gas transmission system was prepared in advance to operate in zero transit mode and provide reliable gas supply to Ukrainian consumers, noted the Ministry of Energy.
