At night, the invaders launched over 70 drones: air defence shot down 47
On the night of January 2, Russia launched 72 drones of the Shahed type and other models over the territory of Ukraine. The air defence managed to shoot down 47 of them.
This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
The drones were launched from the areas of the Russian cities Bryansk, Orel, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
The following were involved in repelling the attack:
- aviation;
- anti-aircraft missile forces;
- electronic warfare units;
- mobile fire groups of the Air Forces and Defence Forces.
As of 08:30, the downing of 47 drones was confirmed in the territories of Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, and several other regions. Another 24 drones were lost locationally without any negative consequences.
One of the launched drones is still in Ukrainian airspace.
