Border guards detained a pseudo-couple from Kyiv who attempted to illegally cross the Ukrainian-Polish border. A young man married a woman with a disability, 16 years his senior, to leave the country.
This was reported by the State Border Service. More details were provided by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
The "newlyweds" were detained at the "Rava-Ruska" checkpoint. A 26-year-old resident of Kyiv, along with his 42-year-old "wife" with a disability, were heading to Poland. According to their version, they wanted to visit the man’s friend.

"Their story about an imaginary friend did not hold up under verification, nor did their tales of living together," noted the State Border Service.
During the conversation with the border guards, it became clear that there was no friend abroad. Moreover, the "couple" could not agree on the address of their residence, and other inconsistencies in their responses arose.
In the end, it became known that the woman, after transferring the man abroad, was supposed to receive a reward of 2,000 US dollars.
The "newlyweds" were not allowed to leave the country. The border guards sent a notification to the police about the illegal crossing of the state border. Now the "couple" faces criminal liability.
